Situation of the Spanish Olive Oil Market (November 2024)
The initial report on Spain's olive oil production campaign has been released, based on data collected by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Food Information and Control Agency.
According to this preliminary report, the olive oil harvest in November reached 255,743 tons, and adding the 36,277 tons produced in October, the total comes to 292,020 tons. This amount, along with the stock in oil mills and packers, totals 320,300 tons of olive oil.
As for sales, the November figures are not very promising: the report indicates a total of 75,423 tons, to which imports that may reach around 25,000 tons should be added.
This outcome has been disappointing for those who were expecting a significant increase in sales due to the drop in prices and the greater availability of new oils, which has not happened.
In light of this situation, it will be necessary to reflect on the challenges we will face in the coming months and seek strategies to increase sales and stay competitive against countries like Turkey, Tunisia, or Greece, whose productions are ready to compete in the international market, which could trigger an intense battle for market share.
