Spanish Olive Oil Market Situation (September 2024).

Contrary to expectations of a significant drop in olive oil movement during September, recent data released by the Food Information and Quality Agency (AICA) and the Department of Agriculture have taken the olive oil industry by surprise.

Despite low reserves at mills and bottlers at the end of August, the published figures show that September outputs exceeded 86,840 tons. This left stock levels at 77,489 tons in the hands of producers and 107,841 tons with bottlers as of September 30th, setting historic lows in the Spanish olive oil market.

The olive oil industry now faces the uncertainty of whether it will be able to meet domestic and international demand over the next two months. Looking at data from previous seasons, October outputs were significantly higher, and if this trend continues, we could be facing an olive oil shortage come November.
